Course Description

CHIN 100 Mandarin Chinese I (3 credits/hours)

CHIN 100 is an introductory course to the Mandarin Chinese language. This course lays the foundation of the study of Mandarin Chinese as a second language. It aims at developing basic oral and written skills of the language through the studies of vocabulary, syntax, grammar and culture.

CHIN 101 Mandarin Chinese I (3 credits/hours)

CHIN 101 is a continuation of CHIN 100. It will focus on perfecting phonetic and pronunciation skills, improving conversation competence, as well as learning more Chinese characters for reading and writing.

CHIN 200 Mandarin Chinese III (3 credits/hours)

CHIN 200 is an intermediate course in modern written Chinese and spoken Mandarin. It continues to improve students’ four skills of Chinese language acquired in CHIN 100 and CHIN 101.

CHIN 201 Mandarin Chinese IV (3 credits/hours))

CHIN 201 is a continuation of CHIN 200. It will further develop students' skills in spoken and written Chinese. More elements of grammar, vocabulary, sentence patterns, idiomatic expressions and aspects of Chinese culture will be emphasized.
