Course Description |
CHIN 100 Intro to Chinese IAn introduction to Modern Standard Chinese, also known as Mandarin. Students learn the phonetic script "Pinyin", the four tones of Mandarin, and communicating in spoken Chinese through the use of language drills and other exercises. Students also begin to learn Chinese characters. CHIN 101 Intro to Chinese IIA continuation of CHIN 100, increasing vocabulary and ability to communicate in Chinese. CHIN 111 Intro to Spoken Chinese IA non-intensive introduction to spoken Chinese. Students learn the four tones and phonetics of Mandarin Chinese. By the end of term students can carry out a simple conversation in Mandarin. Note: If credit is granted for CHIN 111, students may not receive credit for CHIN 100. CHIN 200 Intermediate Chinese Language IBuilds on the foundations established in CHIN 100 and 101. An introduction to more complex grammatical patterns and additional vocabulary, including the apprehension of more than 350 Chinese words. At the same time, both traditional culture and current societal changes are introduced in this course. CHIN 201 Intermediate Chinese Language IIA continuation of CHIN 200. |
